When adapting factual material, screenwriters frequently struggle between telling the truth and telling an entertaining yarn. Rarely do they succeed at both. What is the writer’s obligation when dramatizing real events and people? What are the challenges? Are there legal ramifications? Join screenwriter Randall Jahnson for a lively discussion about navigating the rough waters between fact and fiction. Drawing from his experience of writing The Doors and other biopics, Jahnson will share his knowledge for how best to avoid the creative, practical, legal, and ethical snags that await anyone who is converting nonfiction into popular entertainment.
